The PreDelay — a BPM-synced pre-delay calculator

Audio Plugin · VST3 & AU · by Mesh Plugins

Pre‑delay in note values, not guesswork.

The PreDelay is a BPM‑synced pre‑delay calculator in one knob. Drop it on your reverb send, pick a note — a 1/4, a 1/8, whatever the song needs — and it turns that note into exact milliseconds, locked to your project tempo.

The PreDelay plugin interface — BPM-synced pre-delay calculator

Why pre‑delay?

A reverb only sounds musical when its pre‑delay is in time.

Set pre‑delay to a random number of milliseconds and the tail smears over the next hit — everything piles up and washes into mud.

Land it on a real note value instead, and the attack stays clear and up front while the reverb steps in right behind it, in the pocket. Your reverbs stop fighting the groove — everything sits tight and tidy.

What your ear hears

DRY ATTACK
1/16 gap
REVERB TAIL

The gap is the pre‑delay. When it's a note value, the tail lands on the grid — with the track, not against it.

The math it does for you

1/12000 ms
1/21000 ms
1/4500 ms
1/8250 ms
1/16125 ms
1/3262.5 ms

Type your tempo — this is the conversion The PreDelay runs live inside your session, every time the BPM moves. No calculator tab, no cheat sheet.

How it works

Set it once. It stays in time forever.

No menus, no math, nothing to configure — it reads your host tempo automatically.

1

Drop it on your reverb send

Place The PreDelay right before the reverb on your send/return track — any reverb you already own.

2

Pick a note value

One knob. Choose the note that fits the groove — a 1/4 for space, a 1/16 for tightness — and see the exact milliseconds.

3

Forget about it

It follows your project's BPM by itself. Change the tempo — the pre‑delay recalculates and stays locked to the grid.

The PreDelay in use — note value selection and millisecond readout

Under the hood

Small plugin. One job. Done right.

Locked to your BPM

Reads the host tempo automatically — nothing to set up, nothing to re‑type when the session changes.

Note values → exact ms

Turn any note value into precise milliseconds. The readout shows you the number your reverb wishes it knew.

Clean & transparent

No coloration, zero reported latency. It delays the signal — and does absolutely nothing else to it.

Up to 5 seconds of delay

Headroom for long, dramatic pre‑delays and slow tempos — whole‑note gaps at any BPM.

Mono & stereo

Works on any send or channel configuration in your session.

Automation‑ready

Note value and bypass are automatable parameters — switch the feel per section, ride it through the arrangement.

Compatibility

Runs everywhere you work.

Made by a producer, not a committee

Hi, I'm Ivan Meshcheriakov (IvanFromRnD).

I'm a music producer and the founder of Meshplugins.com. The PreDelay exists because I got tired of opening a calculator mid‑mix to work out what a 1/8 note is at 143 BPM — and re‑doing it every time the tempo changed. So I built the knob I wanted on every reverb send.

Every Mesh device ships the way I'd want to buy it: a real manual, free updates, instant download.

FAQ

Quick answers.

My reverb already has a pre‑delay knob. Why do I need this?

That knob is set in raw milliseconds and has no idea what tempo your song is. The PreDelay converts note values into the exact ms for your current BPM — and keeps converting when the tempo changes. Use it as the delay in front of any reverb, or use its readout to set your reverb's own pre‑delay to the right number.

Which DAWs and formats are supported?

VST3 on Windows & macOS, Audio Unit on macOS. It runs in all major hosts — Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, Studio One, FL Studio, Reaper, Bitwig and more. macOS 10.13+ (native Apple Silicon & Intel), Windows 10/11 64‑bit.

Does it follow tempo changes automatically?

Yes — it reads the host tempo by itself. Change your project BPM and the pre‑delay time recalculates instantly. There is nothing to set up.

Will it color my sound or add latency?

No. It's a clean, transparent delay line with zero reported latency — the only thing it does is hold the signal for exactly one note value. Mono and stereo, up to 5 seconds.

What exactly do I get?

The PreDelay plugin for Mac & Windows (VST3 + AU), a short PDF manual covering installation and the three ways to use it, free updates, and instant download after purchase.
