The thing nobody tells beginners: above a certain point, digital EQs and compressors sound the same. A null test between a $30 EQ and a $200 EQ doing the same curve will leave you almost nothing. What you're really paying for is workflow — how fast you get to the sound in your head — and character, the deliberate colour of an analog emulation.
