THE PLUGIN BIBLE '26

2873 PLUGINS · ONE SCORECARD · NO FLUFF
IM
Written by Ivan Meshcheriakov (IvanFromRnD) — music producer and creator. I've interviewed 100+ Grammy-winning engineers over five years and asked all of them the same question: which plugins are actually open in your session? The answers were shockingly boring, shockingly cheap, and shockingly consistent. This guide is what came out of it.
LAST UPDATED July 2026 · 102 OF 2873 PLUGINS HAND-SCORED · THE REST CARRY A CLEARLY MARKED EST. PROJECTED SCORE
ⓘ How to read this guide · Real sauce, no fluff
This is a subjective guide built on years of using these plugins, thousands of user reports, and 100+ Grammy-engineer interviews. A plugin is a tool: there is no best EQ, only the one you reach for without thinking.

Be honest about the scores. 102 plugins here are hand-scored by me — deliberately the ones people actually search for and buy. The other 2771 carry an EST. badge: a projected score from developer, price class and plugin type. It is a starting point, not a review — I'd rather say that than pretend I've spent a week with all 2873.

The thing nobody tells beginners: above a certain point, digital EQs and compressors sound the same. A null test between a $30 EQ and a $200 EQ doing the same curve will leave you almost nothing. What you're really paying for is workflow — how fast you get to the sound in your head — and character, the deliberate colour of an analog emulation. That's why Workflow and Character are worth 22 of the 100 points here, and why "sound quality" alone will never explain why professionals keep buying FabFilter.

And the advice that beats every purchase on this page: the engineers I interviewed use about eight plugins. Eight. You don't have a plugin problem — you have a learning problem, and the fix is free.

Affiliate disclosure: Links to Plugin Boutique and Sweetwater are affiliate links (rel="nofollow sponsored") — if you buy through them I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It has never changed a score or a verdict, and the EST. models below 55% are still called ❌ Skip It.

On the EST. scores: 102 of 2873 plugins are hand-scored. The rest are projections from developer, price class and type — directional, not measured. Trust your own ears, and treat any score as a starting point rather than a verdict from on high.

Prices are the current Plugin Boutique price at the time of the last update — and plugin prices move constantly. Almost nothing here should ever be bought at list price: Waves, Plugin Alliance and IK go on 80–90% sale several times a year. If a plugin you want is at full price, wait.
