Melodyne Black Friday 2026: Last Year's Prices, Which Edition to Buy and How Upgrades Work
Share
Black Friday 2026 · Melodyne
Melodyne is how most engineers fix pitch note by note, and it's one of the few plugins where waiting for Black Friday clearly pays. Last November Melodyne 5 Studio dropped from $698 to $274 at Plugin Boutique, and the sale lasted until the end of December. Here's what each edition costs today, which one vocals actually need, and how the upgrade prices work.
Melodyne 5 Studio, last Black Friday
$274
list $698 at the time · Plugin Boutique, November 2025
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is November 30. On October 30 every Melodyne 5 edition was at full price at Plugin Boutique: Essential $99, Assistant $249, Editor $399 and Studio $699. Last year the Celemony sale was live by November 24 and ran until the end of December.
Tuning shows up in 42 of the 88 hit-record chains in my Vocal Chain eBible. All 42 name Autotune, and four of them name Melodyne too: the Major Lazer, Brandy, Ne-Yo and Seids chains. In the alternative versions of 34 of those chains, Melodyne 5 is the paid tuning plugin I suggest.

What Melodyne cost last Black Friday
Melodyne 5 at Plugin Boutique: Black Friday 2025 vs October 30, 2026
| Edition | Black Friday 2025 | List price then | Price on Oct 30, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melodyne 5 Essential | 74% off | $99 | $99 |
| Melodyne 5 Assistant | $74 | $248 | $249 |
| Melodyne 5 Editor | $174 | $398 | $399 |
| Melodyne 5 Studio | $274 | $698 | $699 |
The 2025 prices come from We Rave You's report on the Plugin Boutique sale from November 24, 2025, and Dubspot recorded Essential at 74% off in the same sale. Plugin Boutique's own 2025 guide says every edition and the upgrade packs were discounted until December 31. None of that guarantees a repeat, but it's the number to beat: if Assistant costs more than about $75 in late November, it isn't last year's deal.
Which Melodyne edition do you need for vocals?
What each Melodyne 5 edition adds, from Celemony's feature lists
| Edition | Price now | What it adds | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $99 | the Main Tool for pitch and timing, the Melodic, Percussive and Universal algorithms, the Chord Track, ARA | quick pitch and timing fixes |
| Assistant | $249 | the complete toolkit for one voice: vibrato, pitch drift, formants, note volume, timing and leveling macros, the Fade Tool, tempo detection | lead vocals, doubles, rap |
| Editor | $399 | everything in Assistant plus DNA for polyphonic audio, scales and tuning systems, polyphonic audio to MIDI | samples, guitar, piano, chords |
| Studio | $699 | everything in Editor plus multitrack note editing in one window, macros across tracks, the Sound Editor | stacks, harmonies and choirs |
For vocals I'd buy Assistant. The tools Essential leaves out are exactly the ones you miss on a real session: shaping vibrato, smoothing pitch drift between notes, fixing formants after a big pitch move, and leveling single words. Editor only matters if you tune samples, guitars or chords. Studio is for editing a lead and its doubles or harmonies side by side, which saves real time on big background stacks.
1. Celemony Melodyne 5 Assistant — the edition I'd buy for vocals
Every tool a lead vocal needs, without paying for polyphonic or multitrack features you won't use on a voice. Last Black Friday it was $74.

2. Celemony Melodyne 5 Essential — the cheapest way in
Pitch and timing with the Main Tool, plus the Chord Track. Fine for quick fixes, and the upgrade later costs only the difference.

3. Celemony Melodyne 5 Studio — for stacks and harmonies
Edit several tracks in one window, so you see a lead and its doubles together instead of opening each track on its own. It was $274 last Black Friday.

How Melodyne upgrades are priced
Celemony prices every upgrade as the difference between two editions, so starting with a smaller one costs you nothing later. These were the upgrade prices at Plugin Boutique on October 30:
Melodyne 5 upgrades, October 30, 2026
| Upgrade | Price |
|---|---|
| Essential to Assistant | $149 |
| Essential to Editor | $299 |
| Essential to Studio | $599 |
| Assistant to Editor | $149 |
| Assistant to Studio | $449 |
| Editor to Studio | $299 |
If you own Melodyne 4 or older, moving to version 5 is already discounted: Assistant is $19, Editor $29, and Studio $29 from Studio 4 or Studio 3.
One more route: Plugin Boutique's free gift with every order sometimes includes Melodyne 5 Essential. On October 29 it was the gift for orders of $99 or more. By October 30 the lineup had changed: any paid order could pick Native Instruments' Reaktor Prism (a $69 synth) or Excite Audio's Evolve Elastic Lite, and orders from $49 could take IK Multimedia's ReSing SE ($39.99) instead. If Essential comes back as a gift, take it. Upgrade pricing is for Essential owners: register the gift license with Celemony, check that the upgrade shows in your account, and Assistant costs $149 instead of $249.
Melodyne or Autotune?
They do different jobs. Autotune's main mode works in real time, so it's the choice for tracking through it and for the hard-tuned sound. Melodyne is graphical, note-by-note editing after the take, for correction you shouldn't hear. A few chains in my eBible run both, one after the other. I compared them in detail in Autotune vs Melodyne. If you want real-time tuning for little money, Waves Tune Real-Time was $39.99 until November 1. Antares doesn't sell Autotune through Plugin Boutique.
Buy now or wait?
Wait, unless you need it this week. Melodyne was at full price on October 30, and last year's sale cut Assistant from $248 to $74 and kept those prices until the end of December, so there's no need to rush on November 27 either. If you need quick fixes right now, Essential at $99 isn't wasted money, because the upgrade later costs the difference. I'll update this page during Black Friday week.
Once you have it, my guide to tuning vocals in Melodyne covers the settings that keep a vocal natural.

Melodyne fixes the pitch. Here's the rest of the chain.
The Vocal Chain eBible collects 88 vocal chains from hit records, as the engineers described them to me: every plugin, its settings and the order it sits in. Each chain comes in two versions, one with paid plugins and one with free ones, so you know exactly what is worth buying this week.

Does Melodyne go on sale for Black Friday?
It did in 2025. Plugin Boutique discounted every Melodyne 5 edition and the upgrades until the end of December: Assistant was $74, Editor $174 and Studio $274, and Essential was 74% off. On October 30, 2026 Melodyne was not yet discounted.
Which Melodyne edition is best for vocals?
Assistant. It has the complete toolkit for a single voice: pitch, timing, vibrato, pitch drift, formants, note volume and the correction macros. Editor adds polyphonic editing for instruments and samples, and Studio adds multitrack editing.
Can I upgrade Melodyne Essential later?
Yes. Upgrades cost the difference between editions. On October 30, 2026 at Plugin Boutique, Essential to Assistant was $149, Essential to Editor $299 and Essential to Studio $599.
Is Melodyne better than Autotune?
Neither is better; they work differently. Melodyne is graphical, note-by-note editing after recording, while Autotune corrects in real time and doubles as an effect. In my Vocal Chain eBible, Autotune is named in 42 of 88 chains and Melodyne in 4, and a few chains use both.
