Melody Generator
Melody Generator
Pick a key, scale, tempo and feel. Generate a melody, hear it instantly, regenerate until something sticks, then download it as MIDI and drop it on any instrument in your DAW.
Notes are chosen by a weighted random walk inside the scale, resolving to the tonic at the end. Durations come from the feel. Everything is quantised to a 16th grid so it drops straight onto a beat.
Melody ideas on demand
Writer's block usually means the first idea is stuck in your head. A random melody that is guaranteed to be in key breaks the loop: hear a dozen in a minute, keep the fragment that sparks something, and rewrite the rest by hand. This generator builds melodies with a weighted random walk, so it favours steps over leaps like a singer would, lands on the tonic at the end, and quantises everything to a sixteenth grid. Play it in the browser, then download the MIDI and drag it onto any synth or piano.
Scales and feel
Minor and Dorian suit most pop, R&B and hip-hop; pentatonic scales give hooks that are easy to sing; harmonic minor adds drama; blues adds grit. The feel setting controls note density and rests, from sparse ballad phrases to busy trap-style lines.
Making it yours
Change one note per bar, move the high point later, or repeat the first bar twice before the variation. Pair it with the Chord Progression Generator for the harmony underneath.
FAQ
Is the melody generator truly random?
It is weighted random: steps are more likely than leaps, rests are occasional, and the last note resolves to the tonic. Each click gives a new melody in the chosen key and scale.
Can I use the melodies commercially?
Yes. Generated melodies are yours to use; treat them as raw ideas and edit them so they fit your song.
How do I import the MIDI into my DAW?
Click Download MIDI, then drag the .mid file onto a MIDI or instrument track in Ableton, FL Studio, Logic or Pro Tools. The tempo is embedded.
Why do some notes sound out of key?
They are not; blues and harmonic minor contain notes that sound tense against a simple major chord. Switch to major or pentatonic for a safer palette.
