THE ACOUSTIC TREATMENT BIBLE '26

269 PRODUCTS · ONE SCORECARD · NO FLUFF
IM
Written by Ivan Meshcheriakov (IvanFromRnD) — music producer and creator. I've interviewed 100+ Grammy-winning engineers over five years. Every single one of them treats their room. Not one of them owns a single sheet of foam. That gap — between what pros actually do and what the internet sells beginners — is the reason this guide exists.
LAST UPDATED July 2026 · 111 OF 269 MODELS HAND-SCORED · THE REST CARRY A CLEARLY MARKED EST. PROJECTED SCORE
ⓘ How to read this guide · Real sauce, no fluff
This is a subjective guide built on manufacturer absorption data, thousands of owner reports and 100+ Grammy-engineer interviews. Treatment is physics, not taste — which makes it one of the few things in audio you can be genuinely wrong about.

Be honest about the scores. 111 products here are hand-scored by me. The rest carry an EST. badge: a projected score from material class, thickness, coverage and price. A starting point, not a measurement.

Scores are compared within type. A diffuser has no absorption coefficient. A monitor isolation pad has no NRC. Scoring them on criteria they were never designed for would make half this catalog look like garbage — so each product is scored only on the criteria that physically apply to it, then rescaled to 100. Everything else shows N/A. It's visible, and it's honest.

The thing the whole internet gets wrong: foam is not bass treatment. Two inches of open-cell foam does almost nothing below 250 Hz — which is exactly where your room is broken and exactly why your mixes fall apart in the car. Foam kills flutter echo and makes your room sound "tighter" on YouTube. It does not fix your low end. Nothing that light ever will.

And the honest advice: if you're choosing between a better microphone and two acoustic panels — buy the panels. Every time. This is the single highest-return money in a home studio and it is the money people spend last.

Affiliate disclosure: Links to Sweetwater are affiliate links (rel="nofollow sponsored") — if you buy through them I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It has never changed a score or a verdict, and the EST. models below 55% are still called ❌ Skip It.

On the EST. scores: 111 of 269 models are hand-scored. The rest are projections from brand, price class and design — directional, not measured. Trust your own ears, and treat any score as a starting point rather than a verdict from on high.

Prices are last-seen Sweetwater list prices — note carefully whether a listing is a single panel or a multi-pack, because that is where most people get the maths wrong. Nothing here is soundproofing. Absorption changes how a room sounds inside; it does not stop sound getting out. Those are different problems and only one of them is solvable with panels.
